Sadly, classification as 'endangered' renders them vulnerable to the illegal smuggling trade which causes suffering and more losses. But on a more hopeful note, he tells of projects around the world using captive breeding and hand rearing techniques and the enlistment of the support of local peoples which may prove the salvation of these species.
