Zen Birding

As a result of his lifelong passion for birding, David White began writing Zen Birding during cancer treatment, combining his anthropological point of view and his unique perspective that birds are not just objects to be pursued and counted, but rather are sentient beings with whom we share the planet. His work as an anthropologist and many years of participation in the Los Angeles and Santa Fe chapters of the Audubon Society bring a depth and richness to the book. (David was a Board member of the Los Angeles chapter and Vice President of the Sangre de Cristo Chapter of the Audubon Society in Santa Fe, New Mexico, and a field trip leader.)rn

Susan Guyette finished writing Zen Birding as a way to honor his passion for birding and commitment to the connectedness of all life on this planet. An anthropologist as well, she weaves into Zen Birding her Métis Native American perspective (Micmac and French Arcadian) of cultural preservation and environmental sustainability. She has written three books on Native American and rural development and specializes in cultural preservation efforts, museums, and cultural tourism.
