William MacGillivray

Near Fine hardcover in dust jacket.  Small tear to front of dj. 94 pages plus 32 color plates.

William MacGillivray is Scotland's forgotten genius in the field of natural history.  There is no question of his pre-eminence as a naturalist, of his originality of mind, of his skill as a writer, and above all, his talents as an ornithologist.  He published many books and scientific papers, but for a variety of reasons his talents as a painter have never been appreciated.  This book is the first account of the life of William MacGillivray since the 1900s and the first to include a selection of his beautiful paintings in color.
