In these two volumes, one of the world's leading ornithologists studies the biology of birds from an ecological point of view. Ecology is the branch of biology which deals with the habits of living organisms, their modes of life and their relations to their surroundings. This book, then, is a truly ecological study of the life of birds.
The first volume is principally concerned with the adaptation of birds to the requirements of flight. The second volume studies the adjustments necessary to different environments.
Volume I is illustrated with seventy-two diagrams and eighteen black-and-white photographs; Volume II with thirty-eight diagrams and fifteen black-and-white photographs.
