The area covered by this book consists of Eritrea, Ethiopia, Somalia, Uganda, Kenya, Tanzania, Zanzibar and Pemba Islands, Mozambique, Malawi, Zambia, and Zimbabwe.
Over 650 species are described and illustrated, providing a comprehensive coverage of the East African avifauna. There are notes on field identification for a further 633 species under the heading 'allied species'.
The text gives details of plumage, size, voice, flight, habitat and distribution. The color plates have been repainted for this edition and depict all the main species described in the text.
