The storage of food for later use is rare among birds. This particular behavior provides the starting-point of this study, and the first part of the book is mainly ornithological. The author proceeds with an essay in comparative zoology and psychology, in which bird and man are contrasted. He then leads to a philosophical discourse under the caption “My Understanding of Men and Woodpeckers”.
