New old stock - new copies, somewhat musty. Species accounts accompanied by color and b&w photos.

This is the first book for forty years devoted to the avifauna of these remote islands.

The introduction describes the physical features, climate and vegetation of the Falklands and discusses the effects of settlement, providing valuable information on the environment of the birds.

A major part of the book is a Field Guide to 87 species; it provides field identification details and notes on voice, food, habitat, status and distribution abroad, and for all breeding species it describes nesting activity. Falkland records are given for a further 62 species which are rare vagrants or species that formerly bred in the Falkland Islands.

The book is lavishly illustrated with color and monochrome photographs of most breeding species.

It will prove indispensable to serious students of Falkland birds and attractive to anyone interested in the wild life of these little-known South Atlantic islands.
