Two volumes. Volume I: Text. Volume II: Atlas with 100 hand-colored lithographs. Ex-library, bound in maroon library buckram. Call numbers on spines, bookplates, blind stamps. One text page torn. The plates, derived from several government publications, vary both in the paper on which they are printed and condition; a few plates with notes and wear, occasional foxing. Most are bright and clean with tissue guards. A later edition of a work first published in 1860. The plates illustrate 148 species not depicted by Audubon or Cassin. All of the plates are said to have been carefully retouched or redrawn from more characteristic specimens of the birds. Apparently, less common than the first edition.
