Very Good used hardcover in dust jacket. White cloth over marbled boards, gilt-lettered on the spine. Some sun-fading to DJ, and a few small edge tears. 14" folio size.
50 full page color plates by G.M. Sutton. Foreword by Enrique Beltran. A rare treat for the artist and the scientist alike, this book presents an impressive selection of fifty full-color paintings done from life by George Miksch Sutton, internationally acclaimed ornithologist and bird painter. The text accompanying each painting gives the scientific name and pertinent lore about each bird. Sutton's accounts of his experiences while finding and painting the birds are delightful and informative reading. The paintings were sometimes done under trying circumstances, but each is exquisitely detailed; aesthetically and zoologically perfect in Sutton's own inimitable style.
