Hawks and Owls of the World: A Distributional and Taxonomic List

Lists the 292 species of living or recently extinct hawks (including all diurnal birds of prey, order Falconiformes) and 162 species of owls (Strigiformes). Scientific name, suggested English or common name, brief description of geographic range, and an indication of usual habitat are given for each species. Supplementary notes comment on the classification of certain species. An introduction discusses the overall systematics of these two groups and the guidelines followed in writing the list.
