Naturalist, bird lover, composer, and artist F. Schuyler Mathews studied the birds who frequented the woods and fields near his Campton, New Hampshire home. He translated the birdsong he heard into musical notes and published those transcriptions and bird descriptions in Field Book of Wild Birds and Their Music in 1904.
This field guide contains descriptions of the physical characteristics and habits of 127 bird species, as well as detailed comments on their songs and calls. Mathews includes musical scores of at least two songs for each species.
This new reproduction of the 1904 original is a beautifully written and well-illustrated guide to birdsong.
