This study was carried out over six nesting seasons by volunteers with the Madrone Audubon Society and Redwood Regional Ornithological Society. The book provides:

• 159 nesting distribution maps, one for each of the county's 159 breeding birds.
• 179 species accounts, including facts and anecdotes
• Rankings of the breeding birds that are most widely distributed in the County.
• Information on rare, threatened, and endangered breeding birds.
• Historical data on the status of the County's breeding bird populations earlier this century.
• An overview of Sonoma County's geography, including climate and weather, as it applies to plats and animals, but especially to birds.
